LCAP

The LCAP (Local Control Accountability Plan) is a three-year plan, updated annually by BUSD, that describes what the district plans to do to support student outcomes. It's a document with a required structure built around ten priority areas (of the ten eight are required in the BUSD LCAP plan.)

BUSD’s LCAP document includes a plan for the following:

Priority 1: Basic services and conditions at schools

Priority 2: Implementation of state academic standards

Priority 3: Parental involvement and family engagement

Priority 4: Student achievement

Priority 5: Student engagement

Priority 6: School climate

Priority 7: Course access

Priority 8: Pupil outcomes

To be informed and have a voice in the meetings, discussion, and planning, LCAP meetings (about 5 per year) are held by the district and more information can be found on their website.

BUSD School Board

Anyone can speak at a BUSD School Board meeting and you can have your voice heard. The meeting list is provided on their website as well as a link to signup to give a virtual public comment if you are unable to attend a meeting in person.

Meetings are usually scheduled every two weeks and held at Burbank City Hall, but also streamed online and then later available as recordings 24 hours after the meeting.

When advocating at school board meetings, keep in mind that there are many laws and structures set up to keep all school boards non-partisan. The Brown Act is California's law that ensures public access to meetings of local legislative bodies, promoting transparency and accountability in government. It requires that these meetings be open to the public and that actions and deliberations be conducted openly. To learn more before you go to a school board meeting, follow the link below to learn about the Brown Act.

Bring friends, advocate together, and make change!

School Site Council

School Site Council is made up of the principal, teachers, classified personnel, and parents or community members who meet to discuss and make important decisions on academic instructional programs and how state and federal money should be spent. Anyone can attend School Site Council meetings.

Call the office or check school emails for meeting information.

Miller PTA

Miller PTA is for advocacy. Join the PTA, attend meetings, engage leaders, and let us know what initiatives you want us to work on. (And maybe even become a PTA leader!) People think the PTA is about fun stuff at school, and although we do that too, we are an advocacy organization. Our National PTA motto is “Every Child. One Voice.” and the Miller PTA fully supports that mission.
